Interview with Sylvia Ruckman

Sylvia and Linda Walker (Ken’s wife) were roommates in college at TNU, and Ken and Frank played basketball together.  When Ken was preparing to retire from the mission field, he asked Sylvia’s husband, Frank, if he would come on board with the organization that he wanted to start to help resource African clergy to acquire their education. Frank had his PhD in Administration/Education.  When Ken asked, Frank’s response was, “With all that Ken Walker has done, I cannot say no.”

Frank and Sylvia had led lots of traveling trips throughout the world, so it was easy for Frank to organize work and witness trips for EDUF, and with his outgoing personality he found it easy to rally people together and join the trips.

Frank and Sylvia went on the fact-finding tour to 5 African countries to visit Nazarene colleges and universities. They also went back to Eswatini to work on the buildings at Southern Africa Nazarene University. Frank had an interest in technology and while he was in Africa, he helped to hook up the internet in some of the college buildings. He prioritized learning technology.

Frank and Sylvia discovered it made a big difference to share the mission of EDUF and because of it, people wanted to give. They wanted to help resource African leaders to acquire their education.
